Introduction:

When different groups of people are represented equally, irrespective of their backgrounds, ethnicity, race, cultures, abilities, genders, disabilities, different ages, experiences, skills, expertise, etc., it is known as the inclusion of diversity and equality.

Diversity- Diversity means the diverse nature of people in relation to their race, sexuality, religion, culture, ethnicity, mental and physical ability, language, colour, economic culture, etc. It can be seen amongst people in places like schools, colleges, workplaces, etc.

Inclusion- When a person is asked to join a party, it is diversity. However, when a person is asked not just to join, but to dance as well, then it is known as inclusion. Analogously, including every person and making them feel welcomed irrespective of their diverse backgrounds is known as inclusion. It signifies blending into each other's cultures, races, socio-economic cultures, etc., and preventing discrimination, harassment, and division amongst people.

Equity- Equity is the outcome that shows how inclusion and diversity have been dealt with at a particular place. If people treat each other with the mindset that different individuals come from different uneven starting points and then subsequently include them by providing support and opportunities to bring everyone on the same page, then it is known as equity. Equity prevails where there is access and fair treatment in matters of opportunity for everyone.

Why implement DEI?

We are living in the internet era. Every business, company, startup, etc., are on an online platform and are connected globally with each other, working with people of different countries, cultures, ethnicity, races, socio-economic backgrounds, sexuality, and intellectual and physical abilities. Implementing the policy of diversity, equity & inclusion helps in regulating workplaces, colleges, schools, and even families and societies to a greater extent, where everyone could feel welcomed, safe, appreciated, involved, and respected.

How to implement DEI?

A policy has to be implemented at all workplaces, schools, etc., to make people aware of the fundamental concept of diversity in nature. Its main aim is to promote the idea of inclusiveness in a heterogeneous society encompassing culturally, physically, economically, literally, etc., variable situations in order to make workplaces, schools, hospitals, etc., free from harassment and discrimination.

Conclusion:

While living, learning, and working together, we grow together. Thus, for global expansion, we must accept the multifarious community and create a healthy and happy environment for everyone irrespective of their diversity. Correspondingly, inclusivity creates a sense of equity.
