Introduction
The Ministry of Power, Government of India, issued the Green Energy Rules to promote renewable energy through green energy on June Sixth, 2022. These rules shall apply to generating, purchasing, and consumption of green energy. It shall also apply to the energy generated from waste.
Salient features
These rules put an obligation of a uniform renewable purchase on every obligated entity in the area of a distribution license. Any entity may generate, purchase and consume renewable energy by following some methods.
There is no capacity limit for power plant installation to generate renewable energy. They can set up their project in any part of India. Power shall be transmitted through open access.
Such entities can procure renewable energy by using open access from any developer either directly or through a trading license.
There should be transparency in accessing the open-access application. The approval process shall be completed within 15 days.
The Appropriate Commission shall determine the green tariff separately.
It would be simpler to offer open access for prompt approval and to increase the predictability of the revenue flow for renewable energy producers.
Any green power consumer would receive a green certificate.
If green energy is utilized to create green hydrogen and ammonia, there would be no cross-subsidy surcharge, but an additional surcharge would be applicable in such a case.
Conclusion
The rules notified by the central government simplified the procedure for open access to green power.
